Content: It’s that time of the year again – the HKDI Graduation Show! We’re honored to be invited by HKDI to serve as a pre-judge for several consecutive years. This year’s student works are outstanding, reflecting the immense effort the HKDI faculty and students put forth. We hope the July graduation show will be a resounding success.
Industry Event held at AAMA Cosmetology Academy 22nd April 2024
1. This report has been collected as a way to understand the needs of hairdressers and barbers that operate in Hong Kong and the businesses are owned and operated by foreign owners that have immigrated to Hong Kong.
2. The evening began with an introduction of AAMA Cosmetology Academy and what is stands for and what they offer as a private academy owned by a Hong Kong resident/ Entrepreneur and a advisor to the VTC Hong Kong, this person has had experience in Hong Kong and the asian market in education and leadership spanning over many years and has successfully operated academies in Hong Kong and China.
3. The report shows that the need for quality education and sustainability in the industry is a the forefront of everyone mind on that evening and the issues arose that the community of foreign hairdressers is lacking cohesion.
4. As we progressed through out the evening the topic of government assistance was bought up as in the attendees were needing financial support to have their young stylist entering he industry trained in an outside source so that they can focus on the business and have their young stylist attend training so that it prepares the new talent for the salon floor and in turn assist to generate income for the business.
5. Registration of the hairdressing industry was discussed and all attendees agreed that registration gives the industry credibility and not just a job in the service industry.
6. The evening of discussion was based around how together as a community we can make a difference to the industry in Hong Kong and in conclusion it was quality education and registration and acknowledgment of our industry is a necessity for Hong Kong and not just an industry that is saturated with low quality service and together the attendees agreed that we need to work together to support each other and have a sustainable future for our industry.
On 13th September, Hong Kong Barber Battle 2023 promotional event was held at VTC Youth College (Kwai Fong), and we also linked up with Tuen Mun and Yau Tsz Man campus to share this competition.
AHMA Founder, Ms Yip Wai Man, shared her experience with the students and encouraged them to challenge themselves and pursue their dreams. AHMA Barber Community Ambassador Mr. Jay Lee answered all the curiosity and questions from the students about the barber industry and gave a demonstration to the students. Thank you to our sponsors for preparing professional hair tools for the students, LBG sponsored the hair tools, JRL sponsored the clippers and Davines sponsored the hair dressing products.
On 14th August, the discussion on “How to Find the Direction of Sustainable Development in the Beauty and Hairdressing Industry” was held at LBG Fashion Space.
On 6 July, the guests from the hairdressing, beauty, business, education and media sectors in the Mainland and Hong Kong came to the event and shared their views respectively, analysing and exploring the current situation of the industry. They expressed their hope that in the future, with the great efforts of the China Hair & Beauty Association, the industry in Hong Kong and the Mainland will have more interactions and cooperation.
